Background

Ibutamoren (MK-677) was designed to treat growth hormone deficiencies which may occur during childhood or as an elder. A deficiency of this hormone results in frailness and/ or stunted growth. By acting as a ghrelin mimetic, Ibutamoren stimulates both appetite and muscle fiber synthesis, normally resulting in weight gain by subjects given it. Additionally human growth hormone has been shown on numerous occasions to improve wound healing. We hope to encourage research by allowing researchers to buy MK-677.

Pharmacology

Ibutamoren (MK-677) is a potent, long-acting, orally-active, selective small molecule agonist of the ghrelin receptor and a growth hormone secretagogue, mimicking the growth hormone-stimulating action of the endogenous hormone ghrelin. It has been shown to increase the secretion of several hormones including GH and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and produces sustained increases in the plasma levels of these hormones.

The effect of MK-677 on prolactin is variable, with adolescents experiencing no change[1] and elders experiencing a 27% increase.[2] The same inconsistency is shown with cortisol, wherein one study shows an increase[3] and another shows no change.[4]
