Background
Tropisetron is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist and a partial agonist at α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. It is a registered pharmaceutical in several countries outside the US.
Pharmacology
α7 nicotinic partial agonism increases calcium influx while limiting hyperactivation of the receptor. 5-HT3 antagonism increases acetylcholine release.
Pharmacokinetics
Tropisetron’s oral bioavailability is about 60% and its half-life about 6 hours.
